High demands fully met

Two painting systems, two sanding booths, and a stationary extraction system for the FACC plant in Croatia.

FACC manufactures high-tech components for the cabin interiors of modern passenger aircraft at its plant in Jakovlje. In aircraft component manufacturing, the company prioritises “Time, Cost, and Quality” – high demands that the Austrian air technology specialist Scheuch LIGNO was able to meet to full satisfaction. “Every passenger sees the surface inside the aircraft, so a uniformly structured finish is particularly important for our customers,” emphasises Josef Seyringer, Director of International Cooperations at FACC. “We also place great importance on clean workplaces for our employees working in the painting booths. Additionally, energy costs are, of course, a crucial factor: all systems in operation must run efficiently and economically.”

State-of-the-Art System Design for Optimal Product Results

Scheuch LIGNO installed two sanding booths, each accommodating three workstations. “In the sanding booths, components are prepared for painting, a process carried out manually by our employees. The sanding dust is extracted directly at the source,” explains Josef Seyringer. To ensure a flawless surface finish, the two painting booths feature exceptionally smooth wall and ceiling panels and are designed for an air volume of 40,000 m³/h each.

Painting Systems with Heat Recovery

The two painting systems are equipped with floor extraction pits. However, the process goes beyond just painting: heating, cooling, humidification via steam, and dehumidification are also integrated. A heat recovery system further enhances efficiency. Each system operates with two highly efficient, frequency-controlled fans that automatically adjust to maintain a constant airflow, depending on filter contamination levels.

Stationary Extraction System Enhances Workplace Hygiene

The new stationary extraction system significantly improves workplace hygiene in production facilities by efficiently extracting dust during cleaning and sanding operations. The dust-laden exhaust air is filtered through an impulse round filter, and the collected material is discharged into an on-site big bag via two alternating flat slide valves. In general, extraction systems are not designed to be pressure-shock resistant or explosion-proof unless the dust involved is combustible or ignition-prone.

FACC Plant Expansion Triples Production Space

As part of its expansion, FACC is tripling the production space of the Jakovlje plant, which was inaugurated in 2022, to manufacture high-tech components for aircraft cabin interiors. An additional office building is also being constructed. The expansion prioritises a high level of automation and state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. This includes a fully automated painting system and high-precision production facilities, which will enable faster ramp-up processes and increased production volumes in the future.
